Spencer Hughes and supporters celebrate a $3,000 hometown victory.
What won the race: Overtaking Bo Slay on the second lap, second-starting Spencer Hughes of Meridian, Miss., led the rest of Saturday's 32-lap Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series feature for a hometown victory at Whynot Motorsports Park. Hughes beat Slay by 1.175 seconds for the $3,000 payday, his fifth career MSCCS victory and second overall win of the season.
Key notes: Hughes earned his first MSCCS victory since April 27, 2024, at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Miss., and his second series win at Whynot, adding to a March 30, 2024, triumph there, also worth $3,000. ... Hughes earned his sixth career win at his home track and his second this season, adding to March 14's $2,000 Battle of the States victory on the MS Crate Late Model Series. ... Points leader Bo Slay settled for second after leading the opening lap. ... Fifth-starting Neil Baggett slipped as low as seventh in the early going before charging to third by lap 19 and rounding out the podium finishers. ... Six-time MSCCS champ Chad Thrash appeared to slow from fourth on the 30th lap, giving the spot to Chase Holland; Thrash retired and was credited with seventh. ... Third-starting Clay Stuckey, winner of Friday's $2,500 weekend opener at Hattiesburg (Miss.) Speedway, settled for sixth, one lap down. ... The race's lone caution came out on the 15th lap when Brian Rickman retired from fifth. ... The 32-lap feature lasted 12 minutes with five starters completing the distance.
On the move: Easton Bollinger of Bruce, Miss., started 10th and finished fifth.
