Zack Mitchell (center) celebrates his first victory of the 2026 season.
What won the race: Zack Mitchell of Enoree, S.C., fired off from the outside front row and led all 40 laps for a commanding flag-to-flag victory in Friday's Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series-sanctioned DirtCarLift Doubleheader prelim at North Georgia Speedway. Mitchell beat Hudson O'Neal by 1.468 seconds for the $8,000 payday, his first triumph of the season and fifth of his career on the Hunt the Front tour.
Quotable: “Man, this thing was on a rail," Mitchell said. "There right after halfway it kinda started throwing some crumbs up there, some of the lapped cars did, and I got up there and it just got so dusty, I couldn’t see. I guess I got my right-front over the cushion and, man, I was swatting flies up there. I feel like I went from the top to the bottom, back to the top.”
Key notes: Mitchell added to last June's $4,000 North Georgia win in SAS competition. ... It was his first HTF victory since last Oct. 11's Blue-Gray 100 at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C., and first win of any kind since last Oct. 17's Southern Thunder Super Dirt Series stop at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala. ... Mitchell's fifth HTF Series win moves him into a tie with Jimmy Owens as the tour's all-time winner. ... The fourth-starting O'Neal grabbed second from Dale McDowell on a lap-18 restart but never had anything for Mitchell in the race's second half. O'Neal debuted a brand-new SSI Motorsports Longhorn Chassis. ... The pole-starting McDowell settled for third. ... Brandon Overton reclaimed fourth on lap 19 after Josh Putnam briefly took the spot on the lap-18 restart. Overton finished fourth while Putnam faded to eighth. ... Ashton Winger climbed six spots to place seventh. ... Jackson Hise overcame a flip in the night's consolation race to finish 10th aboard a backup car. ... Dalton Cook improved 14 positions to finish 11th after utilizing a series provisional following a spin in time trials. ... Luke Morey finished 15th aboard his backup after engine trouble in his primary during hot laps; Morey was the final starter to complete 40 laps. ... The race was slowed by three cautions, the first coming when Tyler Millwood spun from sixth on the second lap; he avoided contact and soldiered to an 18th-place finish. ... Ninth-running Sam Seawright tangled with Hise and spun on lap 18 and then retired. ... Kaede Loudy spun from 10th on lap 20 before continuing to finish 14th. ... The race lasted 25 minutes with 20 starters running at the finish. ... The weekend concludes with Saturday's 50-lap, $12,000-to-win finale at the third-mile oval.
On the move: Jackson Hise of Ocala, Fla., started 24th and finished 10th.
