Layne Clifton and supporters celebrate his first Topless Outlaws victory.
What won the race: Overcoming late-race pressure, including a two-lap dash to the checkers, Layne Clifton of Seymour, Tenn., paced all 40 circuits of Saturday's Bill & Frank Ingram Memorial at North Georgia Speedway. Clifton took the checkers 0.901 of a second ahead of Hayden Ownbey to claim the $4,000 payday, his first career on the Schaeffer's Oil by Mike Bruner Topless Outlaw Dirt Racing Series and second career feature victory.
Key notes: Clifton grabbed his first win of any kind since Oct. 7, 2023, an unsanctioned Limited Late Model feature at the now-defunct 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, Tenn. ... Third-starting Hayden Ownbey grabbed second from Rusty Ballenger on a lap-22 restart and closed to within 0.397 of a second of Clifton just before the race's third and final caution flew on lap 39, setting up a two-lap sprint to the finish. ... Defending Ingram Memorial winner Kyle Courtney started and finished fourth. ... Reigning Topless Outlaws champ Zach Sise gained three spots and rounded out the top five. ... Consolation race winners Chase King and Bryan Hendrix each improved four positions to place ninth and 10th, respectively. ... Seventh-running Heath Hindman was eliminated in the lap-39 stoppage. ... The lap-22 caution required a lengthy cleanup after Kane Newby, Tucker Anderson, Anthony White Jr. and Dante Curtis were unable to continue. ... Garrett Williams retired under the initial lap-20 yellow flag. ... The season opener lasted 35 minutes with 13 starters completing 40 laps. … The event honored Bill and Frank Ingram, of Acworth, Ga., fixtures among the North Georgia region, with each earning multiple feature victories over the years; Bill won 1990’s inaugural Dixie Shootout at Woodstock, Ga.’s Dixie Speedway; Frank topped 1994’s fifth-annual Gobbler at Cleveland (Tenn.) Speedway.
