What won the race: Tucker Anderson of Blairsville, Ga., dominated Friday's Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series presented by Showtime Properties-sanctioned season opening Sammy Cooper Classic at Penton Raceway. Anderson earned his first Super Late Model victory of the young season by taking the checkers 1.088 seconds ahead of Dalton Cook in a caution-plagued 40-lapper to secure $5,000.
Key notes: Anderson's inaugural Super Late Model triumph of the season is his third all-time on the Ray Cook-promoted tour. The newly-turned 19-year-old also recorded a victory last month at Screven (Ga.) Motor Speedway in 604 Crate competition. ... Runner-up Dalton Cook of Smiths Station, Ala., lowered the track record in time trials with a 13.326 second lap around the 3/8-mile oval. ... Dylan Knowles climbed five positions to finish third. ... World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year contender Todd Morrow climbed from 13th to sixth. ... Tyler Millwood rallied from 19th to eighth. ... The 40-lap feature was slowed by a multitude of cautions and lasted 50 minutes, with nine starters completing the distance. ... Originally slated to play $4,000-to-win, the winner's share was increased $1,000 courtesy of hometown company Machine Construction Co. ... With inclement weather expected, Saturday's series visit to North Georgia Speedway shifts to Thursday, March 12, now paying $7,000-to-win.
On the move: Will Hicks of Cleveland, Tenn., started 23rd and finished 11th.
Winner's sponsors: Anderson's Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine and sponsored by Beaverdam Trucking, Interstate Welding, Coltman Farms Racing, Vinson Sims Construction, Ray Cook Racing, MPM Marketing, Sage Coleman Financial and Wimpy Enterprises.
Points chase: Before Penton: 1. Brandon Overton (200); T2. Garrett Smith (196); T2. Daulton Wilson (196); T4. Casey Roberts (194); T4. Ryan Gustin (194); 6. Payton Freeman (192).
