What won the race: Third-starting Neil Baggett of Columbus, Miss., made an outside pass exiting turn four on the third lap Saturday and paced the final 38 circuits at Greenville Speedway to capture the 16th annual Gumbo Nationals finale. Baggett's $8,000 victory is the fifth of his career with the Comp Cams Super Dirt Series.
Quotable: "Man it's unreal, we've had a terrible year, probably the worst year I've ever had in racing and I'm nobody, but we've had a terrible year and maybe this kinda redeems some of that," an emotional Baggett said. "I get teared-up you know, as a little boy sitting up in those stands I wanted to race one day and I didn't know if I'd be able to."
Key notes: Defending Gumbo Nationals winner Logan Martin of West Plains, Mo., advanced five positions to claim the runner-up position, 0.803 of a second back. ... Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, Miss., led the first two laps from the pole before fading to finish third. ... After winning Friday's $4,000 opener, Brian Rickman of Columbus, Miss., finished fourth. ... Hunter Rasdon and J.C. Waller each gained four positions, finishing sixth and eighth, respectively. ... Morgan Bagley of Longview, Texas, advanced nine positions to finish ninth. ... Josh Putnam of Florence, Ala., ran as high as third in the early laps before retiring on lap 29 and finishing 19th. … Saturday's feature, the second Comp Cams Super Dirt Series race at Greenville this season, was slowed by nine cautions and lasted 36 minutes, with 15 drivers completing all 40 laps.
On the move: Rick Rickman of Columbus, Miss., started 17th and finished seventh.
