Russell Brown Jr. of Valdosta, Ga., picked up a $5,000 victory.
What won the race: Russell Brown Jr. of Valdosta, Ga., led all 40 laps Saturday at Needmore Speedway for a $5,000 victory on the Crate Racin' USA Late Model Series. Brown took the checkers 0.974 of a second ahead of unrelated runner-up Joseph Brown while fast qualifier Allen Styck finished third at the 3/8-mile oval.
Key notes: Russell Brown Jr. notched his first Crate Late Model victory of the season (he won at Needmore in the super street division on Feb. 11 and at North Florida Speedway in Lake City, Fla., in the vintage division on July 29). ... Georgia drivers swept Needmore's top five. ... Series points leader Jason Welshan of Maryville, Tenn., saw his two-race winning streak end with a seventh-place finish. ... Thirteen of 21 starters completed 40 laps. ... Needmore hosted the Crate Racin' USA Series for the second of three visits. ... Henry Carter won the tour's May 14 stop while the track is also scheduled to host the tour's Nov. 18-19 season finale paying $10,000-to-win.
