Spreading the wealth

I’ve used this space more than once to voice my opinion on purse structures, from Crate Late Model racing (which I still contend has gotten way out of control) to Limited Late Models and weekly Super Late Model racing. Most know I’m an advocate for the little guy, the racer who isn’t making a living doing this, but would still like to make enough money each time they race to be able to return the next weekend.

Typically that means just trying to make sure you don’t lose too much. That’s MORE

Say it ain't closed

I don’t know of anyone who hates to see a racetrack close more than I do. I’m sure there are a lot of racers and fans in my area of middle Tennessee feeling that exact same way this week, especially after getting the news that Boyd’s Speedway, the longest running track in the state of Georgia, will likely be closing its gates for good following the sale of the property to Brown Bros., a grading, excavating and utility company in East Ridge, Tenn.

If anything, it’s left me grasping for anything fun to write about. Watching a rollback MORE

You take your chances

When you pay for a movie theater ticket to see a film starring Tom Cruise or — insert your favorite star here — you know without a doubt that the film’s top-billed actor will be on the big screen in splendid Technicolor. There are extremely rare instances where an early plot twist kills off the movie’s main character, but getting rid of an A-lister early definitely isn’t the norm in Hollywood.

Sporting events aren’t quite the same though, unless of course you consider the WWE a MORE

Early season evaluation

daveshankphoto.com

And just like that, Georgia-Florida Speedweeks is a wrap. We’ve barely had a second to digest what we learned during what has become a grueling month-long enterprise for many drivers and we’ve already got an eye on March.

Here are a few things that jumped out at me during the first few weeks of the season.

We learned that Superman is not invincible and that Rocket is still Longhorn’s kryptonite. We learned that Hudson O’Neal’s immediate job security is pretty solid and that Tim McCreadie MORE
