Moral victories and such

Coming home from an AAU basketball tournament two weeks ago, my 11-year-old son and I were talking over the day’s events. His team finished second in the tournament, falling in the championship game to a team that was far superior athletically.

As we talked, I told him that, all in all, it was a pretty good day. The team went 1-3, and made the finals. He quickly said, “No dad, we won two games.” Oh, how fast we forget. His team, the Raiders, didn’t win two games, it just felt that way.

Pondering poll strategy

When I was asked to join the panel of voters for DirtonDirt.com’s Top 25 power rankings this season, I was a little hesitant at first. For starters, despite being involved in the industry for better than two decades, I wanted to make sure that I was qualified.

I’ve only covered Dirt Late Model racing on a national level sporadically over the last five or six years, so the last thing I wanted to do was do a disservice to the JRi Shocks-sponsored weekly poll.
