It’s perfect that basketball, far and away my favorite stick-and-ball sport, wraps up just as racing season really gets rolling. It’s kind of poetic, my two favorites running concurrently with little overlap. Of course you could argue that the other two biggies — football and baseball — really never stood a chance with me because they were smack in the middle of racing season, therefore all I was left with, by no real choice of my own, was basketball.

About this time every year, I have a conversation with my son Riley about getting back to the grind. For him, it’s a basketball conversation. And the grind means getting back to the gym, returning to the weight room and working on things that will both make him a better player and help his high school team next season.
