Speedweeks memories

I came to Dirt Late Model racing relatively late, and I appreciate those that forgive me for being an asphalt-only fan as a youngster. But when I fell for dirt racing, I fell hard, and with the post-college freedom of a car and spending money, I quickly embraced trips to the biggest races.

So when I discovered that there was more to Florida Speedweeks than the events at Daytona International Speedway — now a place I usually just label “the big track” — I was excited to drive south. | Spee MORE

Five tips for East Bay

thesportswire.net

You look outside and see some snow on the ground, then you immediately check Intellicast.com to see just how much warmer it is in Tampa, Fla., than it is at your house right now. It’s only the third time today you’ve done this. Then you log on to your favorite websites and get the very latest list of drivers planning to attend. Finally, for the fourth time this week, you call your buddy just to make sure nothing has changed and to make sure both of you are ready to go.

Sanction boosts DTWC

When I first heard the news that the Dirt Track World Championship is moving back to K-C Raceway this year and that it will be sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, I’ll admit I was a bit surprised. The return to K-C isn’t the surprising part. Of the last three venues to host the DTWC, K-C had the most success in terms of car count. After last year’s race at West Virginia Motor Speedway drew a race-low 53 cars, it makes a lot of sense for race promoter Carl Short to give K-C MORE

Spreading the news

As the sports editor of a local newspaper which publishes about 10,000 papers three days a week, I’m constantly trying to keep little league parents and soccer moms alike happy. It’s a tough chore. Throw in the occasional meeting with my superiors, and well, it’s not always the job I thought it would be when spending thousands of dollars on my college education.

It does afford me the time and freedom, however, to pursue my racing passions, so I take the good with the bad and roll on. Just MORE

Looking toward Georgia

thesportswire.net

As February draws near, my excitement is beginning to really build. The first week of February will kick off the annual pilgrimage that is Georgia-Florida Speedweeks. The beginning of the 2011 season finds me, yet again, in the midst of preparing and planning for Georgia events at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania on Feb. 3, and Golden Isles Speedway near Brunswick on Feb. 4-5. As a part of my services to the two tracks, I have been burning up the telephones and email addresses of drivers and MORE
