Not long ago I was asked during an interview about my racing hero. I thought about it for a minute. I am sure when most hear this question, they conjure up images of their favorite driver taking a big win or championship or maybe just saying hello to them and shaking their hand.

Tis the time of year to give thanks and, as dirt track racing fans, we certainly have a lot to be thankful for. Of course, you wouldn’t always know it by some of the moaning and complaining that goes on on certain forums and messages boards, but there are some of us who are truly thankful for things in this sport. Here’s a tip worth taking. If you’re involved with handling the points at your local dirt track, or if you’re an official with a racing series, make certain — absolutely sure — your organization has a tiebreaker in place in case two drivers are knotted at the conclusion of the 2010 season.

Fortunately for us in the Dirt Late Model world, we have a number of top notch — sometimes called crown jewel — events that draw most if not all of the top names in the sport several weekends each year. Fans and teams look forward to these events and often plan extensively around them. Yes, they generally pay the most money and have the most prestige, but they’re also usually some of the most difficult races to win. Oftentimes some of the best racing of the year happens at these events.

What’s this? I take a short break from writing a blog and the entire country is up in arms about racing formats and how one is better than the other and so on and so forth. Well guess what? I’m here to officially declare something that may shock you. I don’t give a damn about formats. I don’t care if you qualify or draw pills or use passing points or whatever. Give me a well-prepared racing surface and I can almost promise you that good racing will follow.
