I'll almost guarantee it. At some point in your time as a racing fan, you've made the comment: "If I ran this place, (insert improvement here) would happen."

Of course, 99 percent of the time, none of us ever become race promoters, and we're just armchair quarterbacks in the stands. But there is that 1 percent.

In Dirt Late Model racing, when you have conversations from one regional series director to the next, you learn to expect the expected. There typically aren't dramatic differences in the way regional tours handle formats, rules or purses.

And then you talk to Ed Kosiski, who manages the Nebraska-based Super Late Model Racing Series. Here's an excerpt of our phone conversation when I was previewing the series:

As I mentioned in my last blog, one of the things I most look forward to at East Bay (besides the warm weather and strawberry shortcake) is seeing who will break through and make a name for themselves. It's not hard to figure out that the biggest storyline so far at Georgia-Florida Speedweeks is the lower car count than in years past. While economic signs point to a turnaround, the lag in reaching the Dirt Late Model world reflect car counts about 20 fewer than last season.
