Quite often I’m asked in some way or another what racetrack is my favorite or which race I most look forward to covering. It may seem like a cliche, but my answer is always “all of them.” Admittedly, I don’t count every racetrack in American as my favorite, and yes, there are a few that I would be just fine with never seeing again in my life. Sometimes the world of Dirt Late Model racing can teach other sports a thing or two, and Monday I saw a prime example. “Lance Armstrong Stripped of Tour de France Titles” was the news everywhere I looked on the Internet (with the exception of DirtonDirt.com, of course). There were reports that Armstrong was no longer a seven-time champion of the world’s biggest bicycle race after he allegedly used performance enhancing drugs.

For those of us relatively underwhelmed by Eldora Speedway’s tweaks to its major Dirt Late Model events this season, changes for 2013 announced this week — including nearly $200,000 in total purses added for the Dream and World 100 and the addition of a third night of racing for both races — are much more satisfying.
