Rick Rickman on pole for Gumbo Nationals feature

GREENVILLE, Miss. (Oct. 5) — Rick Rickman of Columbus, Miss., and Chris Wall of Springfield, La., won Friday heat races at Greenville Speedway to earn front-row starting spots at the seventh annual Gumbo Nationals.

Rickman and Wall, among 32 entries at the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series event, will compete for a $7,500 winner’s purse in Saturday’s 75-lap main event.

Other heat race winners in Greenville’s richest event of the season were Neil Baggett of Shannon, Miss., and Ray Moore of Shreveport, La., who will start on the second row Saturday.

Other drivers locked into the first eight rows of the feature lineup include Brian Rickman of Columbus, Miss., and William Thomas of Phenix City, Ala., who both challenged Baggett in the third heat race, series regular Chad Thrash of Meridian, Miss., and Kyle Beard of Trumann, Ark., who recent wrapped up his first Comp Cams Super Dirt Series championship.

Among notable drivers scheduled to race in Saturday consolation races are Jack Sullivan of Greenbrier, Ark., Bub McCool of Vicksburg, Miss., and B.J. Robinson of Shreveport, La.

Saturday’s feature wraps up the season for the MSCCS tour. Wall leads Baggett by 105 points atop the series standings.

In Greenville's Crate Late Model portion of the event, Thomas set fast time among 36 entrants and won a heat race to earn the pole for Saturday’s 50-lap, $5,000-to-win feature for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series.
