SUPERIOR, Wis. (Aug. 4) — Score one for the homonyms. Brent Larson of Lake Elmo, Minn., and Steve Larsen of Cumberland, Wis., came out on top Sunday at Amsoil Speedway in the Twin Ports Twin 25 features, earning $1,500 apiece for the 25-lap victories.

Darrell Nelson of Hermantown, Minn., scored second- and third-place finishes to receive a $500 bonus in the Sunday special, boosting his night’s earnings to $2,400 from the special purse.

In the first feature, Jeff Massingill start on the pole alongside Harry Hanson, but Larson blew by to take the lead on the first lap. Larson built a huge lead by the halfway point that disappeared when Travis Budisalovich spun in turn four.

Another caution appeared after contact between Massingill and Todd Gehl left the polesitter turned around, Jake Redetzke charged past Larson, but the move was erased when another Massingill-Gehl tangle in the same turn-two spot brought out another yellow.

After yet another caution for Terry Lillo’s spin, Larson took the field back to green and held onto the lead this time, racing to victory of Redetzke, Nelson, Hanson and Adam Hensel.

After the race, Larson drew an 18 to set the inversion for the second feature, putting him outside the ninth row with Mark Rose on the pole and Laursen on the outside.

Rose shot to the lead at the outset with Laursen, Dave Esse and Robby Bunkelman in pursuit before a caution flew for John Kaanta, who collected Kyle Peterlin in turn two. Kaanta headed for the pits to change a flat before rejoining the field.

Laursen overtook Rose on the restart and began to pull away while Larson had advanced seven spots to the 11th position. With Laursen in control at halfway, Larson’s race ended when he was running 10th as he and Redetzke made contact, sending Larson’s machine into the turn-one wall.

Laursen went back to work out front with Travis Budisalovich moved into second ahead of Rose, Esse and Bunkelman. Nelson made a late charge to finish second with Budisalovich, Redetzke and Rose rounded out the top five.
