SUPERIOR, Wis. (May 23) — Three-time series champion Steve Laursen of Cumberland, Wis., started on the pole and led all 35 laps at Superior Speedway to capture the series opener on the WISSOTA-sanctioned AMSOIL Late Model Series. Laursen earned $2,000 for his fourth career series victory and first since last Aug. 17 at Superior's half-mile oval.

Joey Jensen of Forest Lake, Minn., grabbed second from Nesbitt after an early restart and finished in the runner-up slot while A.J. Diemel of Navarino, Wis., who started eighth, charged into the top five in the final 10 laps and ended up third. Fifty-year driver Tom Nesbitt of Thunder Bay, Ontario, who started outside the front row, was fourth ahead third-row starter Jeff Broking of Grand Rapids, Minn. Jake Redetzke of Eau Claire, Wis., rallied from 22nd to finish seventh.
