Williams leads every lap at Penton for SRRS victory

PENTON, Ala. (May 2) — Starting outside the front row, Ricky Williams of Fayetteville, Ga., led all 50 laps at Penton Raceway for a $3,000 victory on the Southern Regional Racing Series. Williams outran polesitter Byron Michael of Florence, Ala., early in the race and Anthony Burroughs of Athens, Ala., late in the race for his first series victory. Burroughs, Michael, Tony Morris of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Mike Head of Ellenwood, Ga., rounded out the top five at the 28-year-old 3/8-mile oval. William Thomas of nearby Phenix City, Ala., was scheduled to start on the pole after setting fast time, but his car stalled during the parade laps and he gave up the top spot to Michael.
Notes: The winning car is a Rocket Chassis sponsored by RSD Enterprises and SAE Parts. ... The only pass among the top five was when Burroughs got by Michael. ... Burroughs got crossed up amid lapped traffic on the 30th lap, but he was returned to his top-five spot along with Morris, who was also involved. ... Rod Carroll, Steven Endicott and Jason Hudson got together in turn four to draw a lap-four caution. ... Mike Luna rolled to a stop on lap 35 to bring out the final caution. ... Randy Weaver won the following night's SRRS event at Green Valley Speedway in Glencoe, Ala. ... The series is scheduled to race May 9 at Wartburg (Tenn.) Speedway.
