Morris wins after Michael is stripped at Moulton
From series reports
MOULTON, Ala. (April 5) — You've heard of the driver disqualified for failing to report to the scales. Byron Michael of Florence, Ala., is the driver disqualified because he went to the scales.
Because Michael didn't follow series rules to go to the Moulton Speedway infield following the race, the apparent winner was stripped of a $3,000 victory in the season-opening Spring Fling 50 on the Southern Regional Racing Series. Tony Morris of Murfreesboro, Tenn., who pressured Michael in the final 10 laps, was awarded the victory.
"Byron's a good friend, and I hate that this happened," Morris said. "Obviously you would like to outwheel someone, but our preparation met opportunity tonight, and we were in position to take the win. Hats off to Scott (Morris) and the crew, for a great car tonight."
Michael, the reigning series champion who led all 50 laps at Moulton, exited in turn three following the race and went to the scales. He returned to the speedway to find out he'd be listed last in the 24-car rundown. Anthony Burroughs of Athens, Ala., was second followed by Brandon King of Decatur, Ala., Jay Brinkley of Shelbyville, Tenn., and James Cline of Oxford, Ala.
