Stone makes it two in a row on ULMS tour
LITTLE VALLEY, N.Y. (July 2) — Dan Stone of Thompson, Pa., scored his second straight Northern Tier United Late Model Series victory Saturday at Little Valley Speedway, earning $4,000 in the third race of the holiday weekend ULMS Firecracker tour. Stone led all 30 laps of the caution-free feature.
Stone, who won the previous night at Tri-City Speedway in Franklin, Pa., outran Bump Hedman of Sugar Grove, Pa., in the Freedom Daze feature at Little Valley. Mike Knight of Ripley, N.Y., was third followed by 11th-starting David Scott of Garland, Pa., and Jason Dupont of Cyclone, Pa.
“That win last night at Tri-City was a huge confidence booster," Stone said. "Sometimes a lot of racing is psychological. You go out there, you know your car’s good, and you just drive it. Tonight the car was pretty good in the heat. We just made a couple small changes there. We just had a lot of confidence going from last night. I think that was the biggest thing.
“I was just trying to take my time with the lapped cars. I’ve lost a good many races being too pushy with lap cars. The car was just phenomenal. I could drive high and low. I was glad it went green to checkers. With that cone in the middle of the frontstretch, you’ve got to watch yourself on the restarts. A guy could sneak up on you.”
