Kirchoff wins at Gillette, clinches 2nd CLMA title
GILLETTE, Wyo. (Aug. 21) — Hometown driver Eddie Kirchoff wrapped up his second Colorado Late Model Association DIRTcar Series championship Saturday by completing a sweep of the final series weekend. Kirchoff earned $1,200 with a victory at Gillette Thunder Speedway, adding it to his victory the previous night at Casper (Wyo.) Speedway.
Kirchoff, who started fifth Saturday at Gillette, ended the season with a series-high seven victories. He also became the all-time CLMA victories leader with 18, eclipsing Brett Hallmark's previous high of 16. He previously won the championship in 2007.
Third-starting John Bey of Sturgis, S.D., finished second at Gillette while Eric Mass of Rapid City, S.D., rallied from 16th to finish third. Kelly Hample of Billings, Mont., was fourth followed by front-row starters Scott Anderson of Spearfish, S.D., and Scott Lewis of Henderson, Colo.
