Top 25: DTWC victory propels RTJ to No. 1 spot
By Todd Turner
DirtonDirt managing editorSpringboarding off his first national touring four-race winning streak and his second $100,000 ARP Dirt Track World Championship, Ricky Thornton Jr. of Chandler, Ariz., regained the No. 1 spot in DirtonDirt’s weekly power rankings for the first time in 53 weeks.
Thornton, whose West Virginia Motor Speedway windfall for the weekend included the $100,000 Big River Steel bonus on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, moved up one position to land atop the Keyser Manufacturing-sponsored rankings for the 31st time in his career and first since Oct. 14, 2025. He received nine of 10 first-place votes.
The DTWC’s other most satisfied driver, first-time Lucas Oil champion Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, Ill., rose three spots to No. 2 and received the other first-place vote after his runner-up finish secured the title for the Rocket1 team.
Formerly top-ranked Nick Hoffman of Mooresville, N.C., slipped two rungs to No. 3 after an idle weekend.
Devin Moran of Dresden, Ohio, whose bid to overtake Sheppard in the title chase fell shy with a third-place finish at WVMS, sits at No. 4 while Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., dropped two spots to No. 5 after failing to make the DTWC starting field. Pierce’s DNQ ended his bid for a third straight DTWC triumph after he won the previous two seasons at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.
Beside Sheppard’s climb, 13th-place DTWC finisher Kyle Bronson of Brandon, Fla., moved up four positions to No. 19 and Cade Dillard of Robeline, La., who won his 13th Comp Cams Super Dirt Series feature Saturday at Tri-State Speedway in Pocola, Oklahoma., was up two positions to No. 20.
Dan Ebert of Lake Shore, Minn., rejoined the pole after finishing sixth at the DTWC and Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., slipped out of the rankings.
Voting is done by a 10-member committee made up of staffers and contributors to determine the Top 25 power rankings: Richard Allen, Bryan Ault, Jeff Broeg, Kelley Carlton, Ryan Delph, Josh James, Kevin Kovac, Kyle McFadden, Mike Ruefer and Kyle Symons. Results are compiled and tabulated by Todd Turner, who serves as a voting alternate along with fellow staffer Aaron Clay.
Rankings appear Tuesdays through mid-November provided at least half of the drivers in the current rankings are in action in the previous week.
