Moyer’s longevity
Most Dirt Late Model racers don’t compete into their 60s. And most don’t win on the same series over multiple-decade spans. But Billy Moyer, of course, isn't most racers.
The 68-year-old Batesville, Ark., driver’s Tuesday DIRTcar Summer Nationals victory at Benton (Mo.) Speedway was not only his 102nd series win, second on the all-time list, but it came just shy of 40 years after his first triumph on the Bob Memmer-founded tour in 1986 at Spoon River Speedway in Banner, Ill.
That span — a total of 14,603 days — marks the longest stretch in Dirt Late Model history between a driver's first victory on a series and the most recent. Moyer’s longevity means he also has the longest first-last victory span on four other tours: the Midwest LateModel Racing Association (32 years), World of Outlaws Late Model Series (27 years), National Championship Racing Association (26 years) and MARS Championship Series (23 years).
Among the longest-running Dirt Late Model tours, other drivers with the lengthiest first-last victory stretches:
• Jeff Aikey of Cedar Falls, Iowa, who won his first IMCA-sanctioned Deery Brothers Summer Series event in 1987 and his last in 2020.
• Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn., captured his first Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series victory in 1984 and his most recent in 2010.
• And Don Shaw of Ham Lake, Minn., won his first Northern Late Model Racing Association feature in 1999 and his most recent in 2025. — Todd Turner
