Muskingum County set for Lucas-Outlaw clash
By Kyle McFadden
DirtonDirt staff reporterThe inaugural Shale Crescent Dirt Cup is set for Wednesday at Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, Ohio, bringing together a unique Ryder Cup-style showdown between the nation's two premier Dirt Late Model tours at the 3/8-mile owned by Donnie Moran and promoted by Tristin Moran.
The event, streamed live on FloRacing, pits the top 12 drivers in points from the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series against the top 12 from the World of Outlaws Late Model Series in a battle of touring supremacy.
Every top driver from both series is expected to compete, with Brandon Overton the lone absence from Team Lucas. Dan Ebert, who's 13th in Lucas Oil points, will compete in Overton's place. A hefty $230,750 purse is up for grabs, including $20,000 to the feature winner, while every driver receives $5,000 to participate and $2,000 to start the 50-lap main event. Members of the winning team earn an additional $1,000 apiece.
Points will be accumulated through qualifying, heat races, a head-to-head King of the Hill challenge and the feature, where every position could prove decisive in determining whether Team Lucas or Team Outlaw claims the inaugural Dirt Cup.

Format
Split-group qualifying will only award points for the top-two drivers (two points for first; one for second) from Groups A and B. From there, drivers will compete in four six-car heats, where the top three only receive points on a 3-2-1 scale.
Following heat races, drivers will participate in a two-lap King of the Hill challenge. Drivers are seeded 1-12 based on their respective series points standings entering the event, with each Lucas Oil driver paired against the corresponding World of Outlaws driver. The faster qualifier in each matchup will choose whether to start on the top or bottom lane for the two-lap dash.
Seeds will also determine the order in which the matchups are contested, beginning with the No. 12 matchup and concluding with the No. 1 matchup. Each head-to-head winner earns one point for their team. The competition does not affect the feature lineup and serves strictly as a team-points event.
