Georgia-Florida Speedweeks Almanac (Feb. 25)
By Todd Turner
DirtonDirt managing editorWednesday's race: 19th of 30 originally scheduled Super Late Model events from Jan. 22-March 7.
Venue: Ocala (Fla.) Speedway, 3/8-mile tri-oval.
Race details: The Wieland Winternationals on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series continue with another $7,000-to-win non-points event.
Weather forecast: Mainly sunny (7 percent chance of rain). High 72F. Winds SW at 10 to 15 mph. At night, a few clouds (13 percent chance of rain). Low 46F. Winds light and variable.
Who's Hot: Assuredly back in the groove after struggling at Volusia, Tuesday’s Ocala winner Devin Moran of Dresden, Ohio, has two victories and a runner-up finish in four Lucas Oil Series starts.
Who's Not: Kyle Bronson of Brandon, Fla., continues to miss opportunities for home-state success with a 15th-place finish Monday. He hasn’t been better than ninth in 2026.
DirtonDirt prediction: Rebounding from a Monday miscue in traffic, Brandon Sheppard captures the second round of Ocala’s meet. — Todd Turner
Around the Pits: As expected, Ricky Thornton Jr. and the Koehler Motorsports gang skipped Monday’s non-points event while retooling in Mount Airy, N.C. …. After a pair of fifth-place finishes at All-Tech, Carson Ferguson’s Ocala week got off to a rough start when he smashed the turn-two wall in Monday’s action. … Devin Moran is now tied for second in all-time Speedweeks races at Ocala with 11 top-five finishes.
Up next: Thursday's $10,000-to-win Lucas Oil event at Ocala.
Next week: Four Lucas Oil Series events at Golden Isles Speedway near Brunswick, Ga., on March 4-7.
This Date in Dirt Late Model History: On Feb. 25, 2017, Don O’Neal of Martinsville, Ind., wins his 24th and final career Georgia-Florida Speedweeks event in the DIRTcar Nationals final at Volusia. O’Neal’s third-to-first pass on a lap-14 restart led to his first career World of Outlaws Late Model Series victory.
Speedweeks trivia: Who is the lone multiple-race Speedweeks winner at Ocala whose victories haven’t come this century? (Answer in Thursday's almanac; Tuesday's answer: Josh Richards has the most top-fives in Ocala Speedweeks history at 14.)
