Notes: The 2019 Dirt Million is the second running of the mega-event that began last season. … It’s sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and presented by Arizona Sport Shirts. … The brainchild of promoter Cody Sommer, last year’s Dirt Million, won by Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., paid $202,940, which was half of the total purse. … This year’s race will pay 30 percent of the total purse, which will not be determined until Saturday, with more money spread throughout the 30-car field. … The purse, which is determined by driver, fan and corporate contributions, as well as ticket sales, is guaranteed to be at least $250,000. That total has already been eclipsed, whoever as it topped $309,000 a few days before the event. … Drivers will be split into two groups on each prelim day, with each group competing in its own $10,000-to-win preliminary feature. … Competitors earn points based on qualifying, consolations and prelim main event finishes during two nights of preliminary action. The driver’s total points from Thursday and Friday will be combined and used to create the heat lineups for Saturday’s Dirt Million. The heats will start straight up based on points, with no inverts. … A six-car dash, which includes the winners of the four 30-lap duels to be contested Thursday and Friday, along with the two drivers with the highest total accumulated points after preliminary nights are completed, will be used to set the first three rows of Saturday’s main event. … Drivers in the dash will not compete in heats. … Five provisionals (starting positions 25-29) are reserved for the top five drivers in driver reward points who fail to qualify for the main event through consolation races. … The non-qualifiers' race pays $2,000 for second and $200 to start with the winner advancing to the second annual Dirt Million, starting 30th. … Last season, 17th-starting Pearson overcame problems and pit stops to outrun Bobby Pierce, capturing a career-high payday. … The race drew 77 entries, with Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., earning fast qualifier honors. He toured the 4/10-mile oval in 16.727 seconds.
