What won the race: Taking control from race-long pacesetter Michael Chilton after a lap-21 restart, second-starting Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., led the final 17 laps of Saturday's sixth annual 4B 4EVER 40 at Mudlick Valley Raceway. Marlar beat Chilton by 1.885 seconds for the $10,000 payday, his sixth career Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series victory and fourth overall feature win of the season.
Key notes: Marlar captured his fourth feature win this season, his first since May 8's Schaeffer's Spring Nationals visit to Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, Ky. ... It was Marlar's first win in a Rocket Chassis since Aug. 6, 2021, also at Ponderosa. ... Marlar secured his first Iron-Man Series win since an Oct. 24-25 sweep last fall at Ohio's Atomic Speedway, worth more than $20,000. ... Michael Chilton, winner of last fall's $10,000 Iron-Man stop at Mudlick, led the opening 23 laps from the pole before giving way to Marlar and settling for second. ... Henry Hornsby III took third from Tristan Chamberlain as they raced towards the white flag, relegating Chamberlain to fourth. ... Derek Fisher, winner of Friday's Iron-Man series weekend opener at 191 Speedway in Campton, Ky., rebounded from a lap-five incident to finish fifth. ... Austin Lay climbed 13 spots to place seventh. ... The race was slowed by six cautions, none bigger than a lap-21 multicar melee that eliminated R.J. and Rod Conley, Seth Daniels, Cody Mahoney, Justin Cooper, Nicky Pennington and Shawn Martin, whom all raced inside or just outside of the top 10. ... Third-running Jason Jameson, winner of last year's 4B 4EVER 40 at Mudlick, was eliminated under the third stoppage on lap 13. ... Ninth-running Kirk Phillips retired under a lap-17 slowdown. ... Fifth-running Colten Burdette retired under the sixth and final yellow flag on the 38th lap and was credited with ninth. ... The event honored Jackie Boggs of Grayson, Ky., a standout racer who captured three victories each on the Lucas Oil and World of Outlaws tours, including countless wins at the local and regional levels; Boggs died on Oct. 24, 2020, at the age of 51. ... The race lasted nearly an hour and ended just before midnight with six starters completing 40 laps. ... The event is the second-to-last of the season for the track-owning Jent family who have recently purchased Portsmouth (Ohio) Raceway Park with plans to reopen it soon.
