What won the race: Dominating all 25 laps from outside the front row, Drake Troutman of Hyndman, Pa., continued his success in his John Johnson-owned car with a $3,000 Jay's Automotive United Late Model Series victory at The Dirt Track at Genesee. Troutman's second straight series victory came in taking the checkers 4.266 seconds ahead of runner-up Jon Lee, the series points leader who started third in a modest 12-car field.
Quotable: "I've just got to thank (Colton) Flinner and those guys and (team owner) John Johnson for, letting us come out here and use the car as a fill-in here until we get our other stuff ready," Troutman said. "I've just got to thank everyone involved and hopefully the weather holds off for tomorrow and we can race here again."
Key notes: The 21-year-old Drake Troutman, who won his debut at Genesee, has five career ULMS victories. ... He won Wednesday's event at Michaels Mercer (Pa.) Raceway Park. ... Troutman, who ran the World of Outlaws Late Model Series the past 18 months, last week left Team 22 Inc. in making plans to run for a newly formed Late Model team of Maryland businessman Jerry Foster; he's running John Johnson's car as a teammate to Colton Flinner for the time being. ... Three cautions slowed the action, the first for Kevin Smith's nosepiece damage after hitting an infield tire. ... Fourth-running Brock Pinkerous spun in turn two on the ninth lap with apparent suspension damage. ... On the 12th lap, Ken Schaffer spun in turn two. ... Eight drivers completed 25 laps. ... The 17-minute feature concluded at 10:50 p.m. ... Rain hit the track after Late Model heats, but the surface was reworked to continue the program. ... Danny Kienitz scratched from time trials. ... Genesee is also scheduled to host the RUSH Crate Late Model Series on July 21 for a $4,000-to-win program.
