Tad Pospisil and family celebrate his first Malvern West victory of the season.
What won the race: Retaking control from majority race leader Jacob Hobscheidt on lap 27, polesitter Tad Pospisil of Norfolk, Neb., paced the final four circuits of the Malvern Bank West Series-sanctioned 30-lap Thursday Night Thunder feature at U.S. 30 Speedway. Pospisil led twice for five laps (1, 27-30) and nipped Hobscheidt by a scant 0.054 of a second for the $3,000 payday, his first West Series feature win of the season and 45th of his career.
Key notes: Pospisil extended his points lead with his third overall feature win of the season, adding to May 2's Tri-State Series triumph at his home track of Off Road Speedway and June 24's Malvern Bank East Series win at Oskaloosa's Southern Iowa Speedway. ... Jacob Hobscheidt led laps 2-26 before a lap-24 caution brought Pospisil back within striking distance, setting up the winning pass. ... Blair Nothdurft pursued Hobscheidt from laps 8-22 before Pospisil clawed his way back to second, then eventually stole the win from Hobscheidt in the closing laps, relegating Nothdurft to finish third. ... Fourth-finishing Jake Neal, the night's fast qualifier, claimed that spot from Jason Hahne on the lap-24 restart, dropping Hahne to fifth. ... Kyle Berck, fresh off his 100th career Malvern West victory June 19 at Boone County Raceway in Albion, Neb., ran as high as fourth in the early going before fading to finish 10th. ... Fourth-running Charlie McKenna, fresh off two Malvern East victories in the last two weeks, was eliminated under a lap-five caution. ... Jadyn Friesen also retired under the lap-five yellow. ... Mike Collins retired on lap eight, under the race's fourth stoppage. ... The 30-lapper was slowed by five cautions and lasted just shy of 20 minutes with 16 starters completing the distance; the race finished after 11 p.m. following a 37-minute modified feature.
On the move: Jesse Sobbing of Malvern, Iowa, started 12th and finished seventh.
