Cade Dillard celebrates a commanding $10,000 victory at Arrowhead.
What won the race: Polesitter Cade Dillard of Robeline, La., overcame a couple restarts to claim a commanding flag-to-flag victory in Friday's Fujita 50 prelim at Arrowhead Speedway, earning $10,000 in the event co-sanctioned by the Comp Cams Super Dirt Series and Nutrien Ag Revival Super Dirt Series. Dillard was unchallenged in taking the checkers 1.530 seconds ahead of Timothy Culp for his second victory of the season on both Comp Cams and Revival tours.
Quotable: “Naturally, you wanna get any kind of gap that you can, in case you make a mistake,” Dillard said. “I knew if I just kinda stayed behind (Jon Kirby, the last car on the lead lap), there wasn’t nobody passing at that point. Unfortunately the track got like it did, but I’m sure they’ll have it better tomorrow.”
Key notes: Dillard earned his second Arrowhead victory this season, adding to Jan. 3's Comp Cams-sanctioned First Blood triumph worth $5,026. ... It's his third overall win of the season, adding to March 6's Revival Series-sanctioned Ronny Adams Memorial at Boothill Speedway in Greenwood, La. He has won in four straight Revival starts dating back to last fall's Texas Motor Speedway dirt track sweep, earning more than $22,000 over that span. ... Dillard notched his ninth career Comp Cams victory and fourth with Revival, moving him into sole possession of second on the third-year tour's all-time win list. ... Timothy Culp prevailed to finish second after a back-and-forth battle with Chase Junghans, who briefly pursued Dillard from laps 40-42 before Culp regained the spot on a lap-43 restart. ... Reigning Comp Cams champ Billy Moyer improved four positions to finish fourth. ... Billy Moyer Jr. advanced six spots and finished eighth in his first start since last fall's Topless 100 weekend at Batesville Motor Speedway in Locust Grove, Ark. ... The race was slowed by two cautions, the first coming when fifth-running Tyler Kuykendall slowed on lap 40 with a flat right-front tire; he changed the flat and completed a handful more laps before pulling off under green. ... Kyle Beard spun from eighth on lap 43, sending Jon Mitchell spinning to avoid contact; Beard pitted with heavy left-front nose damage and limped to finish 20th, the final starter to complete 50 laps. ... The weekend opener lasted 20 minutes with 21 starters running at the finish. ... Ohio's Rusty Schlenk slowed during qualifying and scratched for the night. ... R.C. Whitwell scratched after sustaining heavy nose damage during the night's fourth heat race. ... The Fujita 50 concludes with Saturday's identical 50-lap, $10,000-to-win program.
