Winner Cody Overton flanked by runner-up Bobby Pierce (left) and third-finishing Jonathan Davenport (right).
What won the race: Polesitter Cody Overton of Evans, Ga., led all 40 laps of Friday’s Modoc 100 preliminary at Modoc Speedway to earn his first career World of Outlaws Late Model Series victory. He finished 1.177 seconds ahead of 20th-starting Bobby Pierce to collect the $12,000 payday.
Key notes: Friday’s victory was Overton’s third of the season at the revamped South Carolina oval and his 12th overall. … Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, retired on lap 33 with a broken rear axle after triggering the race’s third caution. … Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., took a provisional into Friday’s preliminary after failing to report to the scales following his second lap of time trials. … Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., who earned hard charger honors in Friday's prelim, battled trailer issues while unloading before hot laps that hampered his night early. … Ryan Gustin won a consolation to transfer to Friday’s feature after hitting the wall on the opening lap of his time trial session and failing to record a time. … The doubleheader weekend concludes with Saturday's 60-lap, $25,000-to-win finale.
On the move: Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., started 20th and finished second.
Winner's sponsors: Overton’s Triple B Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is sponsored by Collins Brothers Towing, Budweiser, M&M Painting & Construction, The Kicklighter Company General Contractors, Tribble Electric, M&S Concrete, Granite Grading & Hauling, Clearwater Auto Parts, Code Red Rentals & Sales, JT3 Farms, S&S Fishing & Rental, Boswell Oil and Bilstein Shocks.
