Tyler Carpenter heads for victory at Tyler County.
What won the race: Hanging on despite a deflating right-rear tire in the closing laps, second-starting Tyler Carpenter of Parkersburg, W.Va., beat Levi Yetter by 0.181 of a second to capture Saturday's County Roads preliminary feature at Tyler County Speedway. Carpenter led all 30 laps to win $5,000, his first Jay's Automotive United Late Model Series victory of the season and fourth of his career.
Quotable: "Man, that whole last stint with them guys up under me, I knew we was in trouble. I wasn’t sure if my stuff was fading or if I was getting a flat and I just knew something was going south," Carpenter said. "I’ll be doggone if it didn’t blowout at the line. Another three foot and we would’ve lost that sucker. But I’ll tell ya what, I can’t do it without my crew and my kids here with me."
Key notes: Carpenter captured his first ULMS victory since Aug. 10, 2024's Topless 50 at Tyler County. ... It's his 13th overall feature win of the season and second at Tyler County. ... Third-starting Levi Yetter initially nosed ahead of Ryan Montgomery for second on a lap-10 restart, then overtook Montgomery for good on a lap-22 restart before setting his sights on Carpenter; Yetter stuck to Tyler County's hub and nearly drew alongside the fading Carpenter as they took the checkered flag. ... The pole-starting Montgomery settled for third. ... Steve Banal reclaimed fourth on the lap-22 restart after Brock Pinkerous hopped the turn-one cushion and slapped the wall, sending him backsliding to finish 10th. ... The Country Roads prelim was slowed three times, first on lap 10 when Corey Conley spun in turn two after contact from Daniel Hill; Conley retired with a flat left-rear tire and exited his vehicle under caution to express his displeasure with Hill, who finished fifth. ... Ninth-running Brandon Weigle spun at the entrance of turn three on the 13th lap, sending Michael Lake and Kyle Thomas scattering to avoid; Weigle avoided major damage and rallied to finish 11th while Thomas retired and Lake continued for a few more laps before retiring. ... Billy Brown had a solo spin in turn two for the final stoppage on lap 22 and finished 19th, the last car on the lead lap. ... The 30-lapper took 18 minutes with 20 starters running at the finish. ... The three-day event concludes with Sunday's 100-lap, $20,000-to-win finale.
On the move: Mike Benedum of Salem, W.Va., started 16th and finished sixth.
