Dave Hess Jr. celebrates his third straight Farr Memorial victory.
What won the race: Storming by early leader Ken Schaffer on the 18th lap, fifth-starting Dave Hess Jr. of Waterford, Pa., paced the final 24 circuits of Sunday's 10th annual Mike Farr Memorial at Eriez Speedway. Hess beat polesitter Darrell Bossard by 0.544 of a second for the $4,100 payday, his third straight Farr Memorial victory and 17th career on the Jay's Automotive United Late Model Series.
Key notes: Hess grabbed his fifth Eriez victory of the season, adding to May 31's Andy Kania Memorial, worth $7,676, to go along with three wins in local Super Late Model action. ... It's his first ULMS victory since last Sept. 12 at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., and seventh career win moves him into sole possession of third on the tour's all-time list, breaking a tie with Rob Blair. ... Hess notched his 14th career Eriez special since June of 2011 and third consecutive Mike Farr Memorial (2024-'26), earning more than $65,000 over that span. ... Darrell Bossard moved from fourth-to-second on the 20th lap, but never seriously challenged Hess during the race's second half. ... Second-starting Ken Schaffer led the opening 17 laps before fading to finish ninth. ... Third-starting Chub Frank slipped to fifth in the early going before climbing back to third by lap 25 and rounded out the podium finishers. ... Bump Hedman recovered from a hard crash with the World of Outlaws July 8 at Stateline Speedway in Busti, N.Y., and improved four spots to finish 10th. ... The event honored Stephen “Mike” Farr of Erie, Pa., a former Eriez racer before transitioning to co-owning his business, Genesis Shocks; Farr helped NASCAR teams and local racers, but never forgot his former competitors in the Western Pennsylvania area; he died on Oct. 7, 2016, at the age of 65. ... The 41-lapper was slowed by one caution when 11th-running Kyle Bedell retired on the 28th lap and lasted 18 minutes, with 12 starters completing the distance. ... Steve Kania, Greg Oakes and ULMS points leader Jon Lee scratched.
