Drake Troutman heads for a heat race victory in Mercer, Pa.
What won the race: Making the most of his time between regular rides, Drake Troutman of Hyndman, Pa., led all 40 laps Wednesday at Michaels Mercer Raceway Park for a $6,000 Jay's Automotive United Late Model Series victory. Troutman drove a John Johnson-owned No. 48 to victory, taking the checkers 2.542 seconds ahead of fourth-starting Mike Marlar for his fourth career ULMS victory.
Quotable: "I've gotta give a huge shoutout to Colton Flinner and his family and Johnny Johnson for giving us an opportunity to get back on the racetrack here a little before expected," Troutman said, adding that "I think this just goes to show you what kind of crew I got ... It's been up and down (the) last week or so and there's times we might be down, but never count us out."
Key notes: Drake Troutman's shifter linkable broke heading for the scales and required a tow to weigh in postrace, delaying victory lane ceremonies. ... Runner-up Mike Marlar made a last-minute trip to make his Mercer debut before heading to Ohio for the Lucas Oil weekend races. ... Florida visitor Clay Harris nearly went a lap down but steadied to finish fifth in his Mercer debut. ... Six cautions slowed the action, the first appearing on the third lap when Clay Ruffo spun in turn two. ... On the ninth lap, Del Rougeux and Greg Oakes spun in turn two. ... Two slowing cars (Bryan Bernheisel and Dave Stamm) halted the race on the 13th lap. ...
