What won the race: Battling back by Jason Jameson as they raced towards the white flag, second-starting Rusty Schlenk of McClure, Ohio, emerged victorious in Saturday's 40-lap Northern Allstars Late Model Series Breakout Bash at Montpelier Speedway. Schlenk beat Jameson by 0.273 of a second for the $7,500 payday, his first career NALMS victory and second overall feature win of the season.
Quotable: “Man, I love this place. It was a hard decision, we had a lot of places to go and we usually run the UMP (DIRTcar) deal, try to run for national points, and we kinda made a decision this year to try to have some fun, race at the tracks we’re good at, try to chase some money,” Schlenk said. “There’s a whole lot of races I gotta give up, but going to yours every year, you put on a hell of a series. It’s gonna feel good to come run some with you.”
Key notes: Schlenk added to his March 21 Ultimate Southeast Series victory at Blackwater Speedway in Baker, Fla., worth $7,000. ... It's his third Montpelier win in the last two years after earning Ultimate Heart of America and Iron-Man Series triumphs there last year, each worth $5,000. ... Eighth-starting Jason Jameson passed Schlenk to lead laps 36-38 before settling for second at the checkers. ... Dona Marcoullier improved seven positions and rounded out the top five. ... Collin Shipley gained 10 spots to place eighth. ... David Webb spun on the sixth lap to draw the race's lone caution before requiring a push back to the pits. ... The feature lasted 15 minutes with seven starters completing 40 laps and 16 running at the finish.
On the move: J.R. Gentry of Wooster, Ohio, started 22nd and finished 10th.
