Jonathan Davenport celebrates his sweep of the Spring Nationals.
What won the race: Jonathan Davenport Blairsville, Ga., completed a dominant sweep of the Midwest LateModel Racing Association Spring Nationals, leading Saturday’s 50-lap finale from flag-to-flag at Lucas Oil Speedway. The 42-year-old superstar beat 18th-starter Ricky Thornton Jr. by 2.514 seconds for a $20,000 payday that pushed his two-day earnings total to $27,000.
Quotable: “We’ve got a really good notebook here,” Davenport said. “We’ve kind of made it a tradition to bring a car here (in April) to get prepared for (the Show-Me 100). This is an awesome facility and we love coming here."
Key notes: While Davenport’s winning margin didn’t match his over 7-second edge in Friday’s 40-lapper, he was never seriously challenged as he rolled to his second straight wire-to-wire win. It marked the second time in three years that he’s swept Wheatland’s Spring Nationals as a tuneup for May’s Show-Me 100; he also won the finale in 2023. … Davenport’s fifth overall triumph of 2026 was the 15th of his career at Wheatland. … Thornton marched forward to pass Garrett Alberson for second on lap 27 and finished there. … Alberson settled for a third-place finish to back up his runner-up on Friday. … Tyler Wolff, a 40-year-old modified standout from Fayetteville, Ark., in his second of Dirt Late Model competition, advanced from the 19th starting spot to finish fourth. … Matthew Larson, the son of World of Outlaws regular Brent Larson, recorded a career-best Wheatland finish of fifth. … Tony Jackson Jr. stayed within striking distance of Davenport early in the feature until slapping the outside wall and damaging his car’s spoiler. He faded to a 10th-place finish. … Three caution flags slowed the race, starting with Chris Simpson slowing from third on lap 11 with a flat right-rear tire. … Trevor Gundaker spun between turns one and two on lap 23 and Jeff Herzog pulled up lame with a flat tire on lap 43. … Dillon McCowan was running fourth when he stopped in turn two during the lap-43 caution period. His car was towed off the track.
On the move: Ricky Thornton Jr. of Chandler, Ariz., started 18th and finished second.
