What won the race: Powering around early leader Kaede Loudy at the completion of the 23rd lap, second-starting Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., staved off a late charge from Sam Seawright to win Saturday's 75-lap sixth annual Lil' Bill Corum Memorial at Tazewell Speedway. Overton led the final 53 laps and beat Seawright by 0.642 of a second for the $21,000 payday, his 13th career Schaeffer's Spring Nationals victory and sixth overall win of the 2026 season.
Key notes: Overton captured his first Spring Nationals victory since last March 29 at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Ala. ... It's his first career Corum Memorial triumph and third career Tazewell victory, adding to Southern Nationals wins there in 2017 and '18, each worth $10,000. ... Sam Seawright, apparent second-place finisher, was disqualified in technical inspection. Seawright took second from Kaede Loudy on lap 60 and nearly erased Overton's 4.152-second advantage before the postrace DQ. ... Dale McDowell, winner of Thursday's $5,053 Easter weekend opener at I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, Tenn., grabbed fourth from Hudson O'Neal on the 22nd lap. ... O'Neal, who was seeking his second straight series win after topping Friday's stop at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Va., settled for fifth. ... Steve Smith slowed with right-rear wheel damage in time trials and scratched for the night. ... Chris Ferguson loaded up before hot laps when his team discovered a lingering mechanical issue after Friday's action at Wythe. ... The event honored Lil’ Bill Corum, a Hall of Famer at three different tracks in the region and winner of more than 300 races, including 1981’s NDRA Stroh’s 100 at Atomic Speedway. Corum’s career spanned more than 30 years (1959 to ’89) throughout the East-Tennessee and North Georgia area, adding track championships at 411 Motor Speedway, Atomic, Tazewell, Knoxville (Tenn.) Raceway, Ashway Speedway, Appalachian Speedway and Newport Speedway.
