What won the race: Powering around Dylan Knowles on a lap-seven restart, third-starting Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., led the rest of Sunday's 40-lap Georgia Rumble at Cochran Motor Speedway. Overton's $7,500 prize marks his second Coltman Farms Southern All Star Series victory of the season — he also won Feb. 3's $12,000 Winter Freeze at Screven — and the seventh of his career.
Key notes: It's Overton's second career series win at Cochran after topping 2016's inaugural Georgia Rumble, worth $5,000. ... Eighth-starting Dalton Cook, a night removed from winning Saturday's $20,000 Hunt the Front Series Southern Showdown at Swainsboro, grabbed the runner-up spot on lap 24 and trailed Overton the final 17 circuits, finishing 1.639 seconds back. ... Sam Seawright overcame jumping the turn-two cushion on lap two — slipping as low as 10th — and rebounded to finish third. ... The second-starting Herrington, of Hawkinsville, Ga., led the opening lap before jumping the turn-two cushion and giving way to Knowles. He rebounded to finish fourth after slowing the draw the race's first caution and pitting. ... Sunday's feature, the first SAS event since April 13 at North Georgia, was slowed by seven incidents, including two 10-minute red flags for cleanup; the most serious came for a lap-37 frontstretch pileup that ended the night of pole-starting Knowles. Knowles ran to Caleb Gay's car and appeared to express his frustration during the stoppage. ... Knowles, who led laps 2-6, was also involved in the first red flag on lap 15 when Michael Page spun him in front of the field, as they battled for second; Page and Jack Riggs were unable to continue. ... The race lasted 53 minutes, with 11 cars on the lead lap and 14 running at the finish. ... Series points leader David McCoy finished 14th aboard Joe Denby's backup car after suffering mechanical problems in his Coltman Farms Racing Longhorn entry. ... Track owner Chris Martin has listed the track for sale.
On the move: Jordy Nipper of Gray, Ga., started 17th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Overton’s Wells & Sons Motorsports Infinity by Wells Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Garnto Southern, Muscle Factory, Coltman Farms Racing, Big Dog Stump & Tree, Victory Fuel, Convenient Lube, E-Z-Go, Hurst Construction, On-Point Wrap Factory, Walker Filters, Impact Race Gear, Boswell Oil, VP Racing Fuels and Midwest Sheet Metal.
