Ashton Winger (12) grabbed the lead when Drake Troutman (7) slid too high in turn two after a lap-19 restart.
What won the race: Taking command when Drake Troutman slipped over the turn-two cushion on a lap-19 restart, low-running Ashton Winger of Hampton, Ga., led the rest of Wednesday's 40-lapper at Adams County Speedway for his second DIRTcar Summer Nationals victory of the season. Winger, who won the previous Wednesday at Davenport (Iowa) Speedway, took the checkers one second ahead of Jason Feger for a $5,000 payday.
Quotable: "It just started off a little slimy down there (in the low groove) and I knew we were eventually going to get it packed in," Winger said. "Drake's fast. He's hard to beat on that lip. ... (if he) doesn't mess up, it's hard to make a pass on 'em. He's pretty good. He's got a bright future ahead of him and he's gonna get some wins. But hell, we've been pretty good."
Key notes: In a scary moment with two laps remaining, Winger narrowly avoided a four-car pileup between turn one and two, making slight contact with Kye Blight but finding a gap to avoid further trouble. ... Drake Troutman dominated the first 19 laps but slipped over the banking multiple times in slipping back to fifth. ... A Down Under caution on the second lap was for a turn-four tangle involving Aussie Kye Blight and Kiwi Mick Quin. ... Two other cautions appeared for a spinning David Payne (lap 12) and Johnathan Huston (lap 19). ... Prelims were completed well before dark but feature action was delayed as the track awaiting the return of an ambulance.... Drake Troutman's 11.898-second lap was the first under the 12-second mark in Quincy history as he lowered the track record (Will Vaught set the previous mark in 2009). ... Cody Bauer got upside down on the backstretch in time trials; he was unharmed (he'd also rolled in a second-round accident in Kankakee, Ill.) ... Brandon Queen scratched from the feature. ... Adams County on Sunday hosts the Midwest LateModel Racing Association for a $7,000-to-win event.
On the move: Morgan Bagley of Longview, Texas, started 14th and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Winger’s Jeff Mathews Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by an Andy Durham Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Johnny Doan Plumbing, RV Select Inc., Keyser Manufacturing, Integra Shocks, Angry Elephant Tattoo and Piercing, FK Rod Ends, Super K Express, Hoosier Tire, Simpson Race Products, Collins Signs, DirtCarLift.com, VP Race Fuels, Boswell Oil and WrapTeck.
