Josh Rice heads for victory at Lake Cumberland Speedway.
What won the race: Second-starting Josh Rice led all 40 caution-free laps to win Saturday's $7,531 Johnny Wheeler Memorial at Lake Cumberland Speedway. The Verona, Ky., driver led the entire distance for the second consecutive night in Kentucky, securing his eighth career Valvoline Iron-Man Racing Series victory and his fourth win of the season. His Friday Iron-Man victory came at Lake Cumberland's sister track, Junction City's Ponderosa Speedway.
Key notes: Fourth-starting Camaron Marlar moved into the runner-up position on lap four and trailed Rice the rest of the way, finishing 0.592 of a second back. … Zack Dohm started and finished third. ... Reigning series champion Michael Chilton gained one spot and finished fourth. ... Justin Rattliff advanced three positions and finished fifth. ... Skylar Marlar started 14th and finished 10th. ... Jensen Ford suffered heavy left side damage during his heat race and was unable to continue; Ford, Mike Bargo and Victor Lee scratched from the feature. ... Saturday's event honored Johnny Wheeler, the likable second-generation racer of Campbellsville, Ky., who notched six career Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series victories along with multiple track championships at Lake Cumberland Speedway, Bluegrass Speedway, Barren County Speedway and Taylor County Speedway; Wheeler died May 29, 2018. ...
