Trever Feathers celebrates his first Appalachian Mountain victory.
What won the race: Outdueling Matt Cochran and regaining control for good on the 23rd lap, second-starting Trever Feathers of Winchester, Va., led the rest of Friday's 40-lap Selinsgrove Ford Appalachian Mountain Speedweek opener at Clinton County Speedway. Feathers beat Dylan Yoder by a distant 3.724 seconds for the $5,000 payday, his first career Appalachian Mountain Speedweek victory and fifth overall feature win of the season.
Quotable: “I thought I had (Gregg) Satterlee cause I could pace him and it looked like he was a little dependent on the mud, I just needed (the track) to get black," Feathers said. "The blacker it got, the better I was and when I slid him down here (in turn one), I was expecting him to come back on a crossover and I saw nothing but blue, and I was like ‘Who the hell is that?,’ (Matt) Cochran had a good car.”
Key notes: Feathers led twice for 22 laps (16-19, 23-40) en route to his fifth overall win of the season, adding to victories at Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway (March 21, May 2) and Bedford (Pa.) Speedway (April 10, May 29). ... It's his second career Clinton County triumph, adding to his Fall Clash Series victory there last Sept. 20, also worth $5,000. ... Twelfth-starting Matt Cochran powered around Feathers on a lap-20 restart and led three laps (20-22) before Feathers used a similar move on the outside to regain command on lap 23. ... Dylan Yoder slipped by Cochran for second as they raced towards the white flag, dropping Cochran to third. ... Two-time and reigning AMS champ Gregg Satterlee led the opening 15 laps from the pole before losing control on a lap-16 restart and settling for fourth. ... Colin Casale ran as high as third in the early going before fading to finish 11th. ... The race was slowed by six cautions, the first coming on the sixth lap when Tyler Horst retired after a solo-spin in turn one. ... Danny Snyder spun in turn two a couple laps later before soldiering to a 13th-place finish. ... Drew Weisser and Luke Hoffner tangled in turn two for the third stoppage on lap 16; both drivers continued with Weisser spinning again for the final caution on the 30th lap. ... Del Rougeux retired after spinning from 14th on lap 20 and Troy Morris III pulled up limp out of turn four on the 26th circuit. ... The 40-lapper lasted 30 minutes with 17 starters completing the distance. ... Chad Homan, Dave Stamm, Kody Lyter and Maddox Smith scratched after prelims, negating the night's consolation race. ... Cody Lucas scratched from the feature lineup.
On the move: Overcoming a heat race penalty Justin Weaver of Clearspring, Md., started 23rd and finished 10th.
