Joseph Joiner celebrates his first career Northern Allstars victory.
What won the race: Powering around early leader Tyler Collins at the exit of turn four on a lap-19 restart, fourth-starting Joseph Joiner of Milton, Fla., led the rest of Friday's 40-lap Don Hobbs Classic in his debut at Bloomington Speedway. Joiner muscled his way through lapped traffic in the closing laps, beating Devin Gilpin by 2.016 seconds for the $10,000 payday, his first career Northern Allstars Late Model Series victory and first win of the 2026 season.
Quotable: “Yeah we rode around there for quite a while and a lot of crumbs up there (in the high line) I knew I needed to pack down. We had that long (lap-19) caution there and I was doing my best to pack them in,” Joiner said. “It was the first restart I had out there without anybody in front of me and this place is so tight, the aero part, I don’t really wanna run in there behind someone on the cushion like that. I was kinda being conservative, I knew on that restart I was gonna have a clear line out there, so I sent her off in there pretty good.”
Key notes: Joiner led the final 22 laps in capturing his first win of any kind since last June's Grassy Smith Memorial at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C., worth $10,000 in Southern Thunder Super Dirt Series action. ... Third-starting Tyler Collins made a bold three-wide move on the first lap and paced the opening 18 circuits before giving way to Joiner on the lap-19 restart; fifth-starting Devin Gilpin overtook Collins on lap 26, handing Collins third and his best career series finish. ... Eighth-starting David Webb stuck primarily to the bottom and slipped by Derek Groomer for fourth on the lap-19 restart, dropping the pole-starting Groomer to fifth. ... Outside front-row starter Jason Jameson slipped to sixth at the checkers. ... The race was slowed by three cautions, the most serious for a lap-three multicar tangle in turn three that eliminated Kyle McMahon, Zak Blackwood and Colby Reed. … Tucker Chastain spun at the entrance of turn one on the sixth lap. … Jake Leitzman spun in turn four for the final stoppage on lap 19. … Rusty Schlenk retired from sixth just after the lap-19 restart. … The feature lasted 26 minutes with 10 starters completing 40 laps. … Three sets of hot laps were needed after the track surface was deemed too dusty by competitors and series officials. ... The event honored the Bloomington, Ind., Hall of Famer who first drove C.J. Rayburn’s famous No. 1 house car, racking up 54 victories between 1979-’80. ... William Harris scratched after hot laps.
On the move: Cody Mahoney of Madison, Ind., started 14th and finished seventh.
