What won the race: Fighting off Ethan Dotson just before the race's halfway mark, Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., overcame a rash of cautions in leading all 40 laps from the pole to complete a sweep of the Bad Boy 98 at Batesville Motor Speedway. Davenport beat Dotson to the checkers by 1.990 seconds for a $12,000 payday, his eighth career Comp Cams Super Dirt Series victory and ninth overall feature win of the season.
Quotable: “We had one little incident with Ethan (Dotson) there. Me and him got together on the back straightaway there a little bit just racing through the rubber for the lead,” Davenport said. “(The track) just started rubbering as I got to that lapped traffic and I was trying to move around 'em and couldn’t quite clear 'em. Hopefully I didn’t tear his car up too bad there, but I was on the outside and I think he pushed up in the rubber there a little bit.”
Key notes: Davenport led all but one of the 70 laps contested in sweeping the two-day Bad Boy Mowers-sponsored event, collecting more than $27,000, including the $5,000 earned in winning Friday's opener and a $10,000 bonus courtesy of Mark Martin Automotive. ... Six of Davenport's eight career Comp Cams wins have come at Batesville, including a sweep of 2021's Bad Boy event. The other two came in Topless 100 action where he scored $50,000 paydays there in 2022 and '25. ... Davenport has nearly $150,000 in earnings across the six Comp Cams victories at Batesville, the home track for his Double L Motorsports team. ... Fifth-starting Ethan Dotson quickly moved to second by lap three and pressured Davenport before the two made backstretch contact just before the halfway mark. Dotson, who led the opening lap Friday, didn't have anything for Davenport after the mid-race contact and settled for runner-up money the second straight night. ... Eleventh-starting Cade Dillard briefly took second from Dotson on a lap-30 restart before relinquishing the spot back to Dotson on the next lap. ... Chandler Petty ran as high as fourth for much of the race before completing the top-five finishers. ... Eli Ross and Morgan Bagley each gained 14 spots to finish eighth and ninth. ... The feature was slowed by 11 cautions, most notably when Timothy Culp slowed from eighth on the 30th lap, triggering the seventh yellow flag of the night; Culp soldiered to a 16th-place result. ... Billy Moyer slowed from fourth on the ensuing restart before continuing to finish 13th. ... Ironically, Brian Rickman brought out the first caution when he slowed from 15th on lap seven and then the final stoppage when he spun from 10th on the 36th lap, collecting Ryan Johnson; Johnson did not continue. ... The 40-lapper lasted 44 minutes with 19 starters completing the distance.
On the move: Kyle Beard of Trumann, Ark., started 21st and finished fourth; Scott Crigler of Alton, Mo., started 24th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Davenport’s Double L Motorsports Longhorn Chassis carries sponsorship from Ace Doran, Nutrien Ag Solutions, ASC Warranty, Mark Martin Automotive, Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas, Mount Airy Polaris, Bilstein Shocks, VP Racing Fuels, Dyer’s Top Rods, Go Lithium Batteries and Midwest Sheet Metal.
Points chase: After Batesville Saturday: 1. Cade Dillard (1,310); 2. Timothy Culp (1,225); 3. Kyle Beard (1,220); 4. Eli Ross (1,115); 5. Billy Moyer (1,105).
