What won the race: Unfazed by a late-race restart, second-starting Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., led all but the opening lap of Friday's 30-lap Bad Boy 98 prelim at Batesville Motor Speedway. Davenport beat early leader Ethan Dotson to the checkers by 1.687 seconds for the $5,000 payday, his seventh career Comp Cams Super Dirt Series victory and seventh overall win of the season.
Key notes: Davenport notched his third career Bad Boy feature victory at Batesville after sweeping the two-day event in 2021, worth $17,000. ... He'll be gunning for a $10,000 bonus courtesy of Mark Martin Automotive, if he can also win Saturday's 40-lap, $12,000-to-win finale. ... Five of Davenport's seven career Comp Cams victories have come at Batesville, including Aug. 19-20, 2022, wins during the Topless 100 weekend. ... Davenport's Double L Motorsports team is based in Batesville. ... After trading slide jobs Ethan Dotson edged Davenport by 0.008 of a second to lead the opening lap. Davenport then used a turn-one slider to clear Dotson on the next set of turns and never looked back. ... Billy Moyer prevailed to finish third after a back-and-forth battle with Scott Crigler just after the race's halfway mark. ... Crigler held fourth until Cade Dillard and Chandler Petty slipped by him on the final lap. ... The race's lone stoppage came on lap 28 when Clay Stuckey slowed from fifth with an apparent flat tire. ... Making his Late Model debut, Garrett Taylor retired on the 20th lap. ... Provisional starter Tyler Kuykendall fought mechanical issues throughout the night and retired after the opening lap. ...
