What won the race: Fourth-starting Trae Kirk of Monroe, Ga., overcame an opening lap pileup to control all 50 laps of Saturday's Southern All Star Dirt Series presented by Showtime Properties return to Winder-Barrow Speedway. Kirk topped Kenny Collins by 0.739 of a second for the $5,000 payday, his first career Southern All Stars victory and second Winder-Barrow win of the season.
Quotable: “I got lucky on the start and was able to move up a row. I hate that happened to Tucker (Anderson), ya know, I don’t like for anybody to be taken out of a race early like that. He would’ve been one in contention,” Kirk said. “I got a jump and was running the top for most of the race until my spotter told me to move down, Kenny (Collins) was coming.”
Key notes: Kirk added to his March 21 Winder-Barrow victory in local Limited Late Models. ... It was his first career major Late Model touring series triumph. ... Seventh-starting Kenny Collins trailed Kirk the final 40 laps, but never truly threatened for the lead. ... Points leader Tucker Anderson, winner of Friday's weekend opener at Hartwell (Ga.) Motor Speedway, got swept up in an opening-lap pileup and was credited with 18th. ... Apparent 12th-place finisher Payton Stevenson was disqualified and moved to 20th in the final rundown. Stevenson lowered the track record in time trials. ... Six drivers finished on the lead lap of the 88-minute feature with nine starters running at the finish. ... Wil Herrington, who was slated to start third, scratched from the feature with transmission issues.
On the move: Billy Franklin of Calera, Ala., started 13th and finished fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Kirk’s Longhorn Chassis is sponsored by Atha Equipment Rental, Monroe Automotive and Tire, Foy Septic, The Towers at Snows Mill, J Key Homes, State Mechanical Heating & Air, Christie Dove Insurance, Expo Homes, Chatham & Sons LLC, SKJ Performance Engineering, GW Performance and Ultimate Racing Helmets.
