Brandon Overton celebrates a $21,000 Spring Nationals victory at Tazewell.
What won the race: Powering around race-long leader Kaede Loudy at the completion of the 23rd lap, second-starting Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., went on to stave off a late charge from Sam Seawright to win Saturday's sixth annual Lil' Bill Corum Memorial at Tazewell Speedway. Overton led the final 53 circuits of the 75-lap feature for the $21,000 payday, his 13th career Schaeffer's Spring Nationals victory and sixth overall win of the 2026 season.
Quotable: “First off, this (win) is for my guys. They busted their butts,” Overton said. “The track, as soon as I got the lead, I could kinda feel it starting to latch down and so it was my race to lose. I was trying not to crash with the (lapped cars) and just be smart."
Key notes: Overton captured his first Spring Nationals victory since March 29, 2025, at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Ala. ... It was his first career Corum Memorial triumph and third career Tazewell victory, adding to Southern Nationals wins there in 2017 and '18, each worth $10,000. ... Apparent runner-up Sam Seawright was disqualified for a deck height violation in postrace tech and moved to 19th in the final rundown. Seawright took second from Kaede Loudy on lap 60 and cut Overton's 4.152-second advantage to just under a second in the closing laps. ... Loudy led the opening 22 laps from the pole before giving way to Overton. ... Dale McDowell, winner of Thursday's $5,053 Easter weekend opener at I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, Tenn., grabbed fourth from Hudson O'Neal on the 22nd lap before being credited with third with Seawright's DQ. ... O'Neal, seeking his second straight series victory after topping Friday's stop at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Va., settled for fourth. ... Ninth-starting Mike Marlar, fresh off Friday's $10,000 Northern Allstars Late Model Series victory at Kentucky's Ponderosa Speedway, improved four positions and completed the top five. ... Fast qualifier Benji Hicks started and finished seventh. ... The race was slowed by two cautions, both involving Dakota Smith: a solo spin in turn one on the opening lap, then a tangle with Mathew Porter a few laps later (both drivers continued until retiring around the halfway mark). ... Jack Franklin slowed and pulled off under green on lap 33 as the race's first retiree. ... The 75-lapper lasted 21 minutes with 11 starters completing the distance and 16 running at the checkers. ... Steve Smith slowed with right-rear wheel damage in time trials and scratched for the night. ... Chris Ferguson loaded up before hot laps when his team discovered a locked-up oil pump and lingering mechanical issues from Friday's action at Wythe. ... The event honored Lil’ Bill Corum, a Hall of Famer at three different tracks in the region and winner of more than 300 races.
On the move: Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Ga., started eighth and finished third.
