Colten Burdette celebrates his first career Iron-Man Series victory.
What won the race: Series points leader Colten Burdette of Parkersburg, W.Va., outdueled Jeff Babcock late, using a turn-two pass on the final lap to capture Friday's 30-lap Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series feature at Limaland Motorsports Park. Burdette led twice for 26 laps (1-23, 30) and beat Babcock to the line by 0.304 of a second for the $5,000 payday, his first career Iron-Man victory in Limaland's first Super Late Model race since 2007.
Key notes: Burdette notched his second overall victory of the season; he won June 21's Rumble on the Ridge at Skyline Speedway in Stewart, Ohio, worth $3,000. ... Seventh-starting Jeff Babcock, who was also chasing his first Iron-Man series victory and his first win of any kind in nearly nine years, led once for six laps (24-29) before giving way to Burdette and settling for second. ... Eighth-starting Rusty Schlenk grabbed third on lap 23 to land on th the podium. ... The race's third and final yellow flag flew on the 29th lap, before the leaders took the white flag and appeared to the end the nights for Dusty Moore and Blake Creech, as they battled for 12th. ... The second slowdown came on lap eight, eliminating Drew Smith and Jacob Gamber. ... Terry Rushlow was eliminated on the opening lap and scored 21st as the race's first retiree. ... The 30-lapper lasted 17 minutes, with 15 starters completing the distance. ... Clayton Bryant scratched from the main event, while Harrison Oliver and Cameron Tusing scratched after time trials. ... The event was the first Super Late Model race since Duane Chamberlain's May 11, 2007 victory on the Sunoco American Late Model Series.
