What won the race: Regaining command from Jason Jameson on lap 31 and then surviving two late restarts, Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tenn., emerged victorious in Friday night’s 50-lap Billy Todd Classic at Lake Cumberland Speedway. Hedgecock beat Jameson to the finish line by 1.133 seconds for a $10,000 payday in the event co-sanctioned by the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series and Northern Allstars Late Model Series.
Quotable: “I can’t decide if the rubber saved me or not,” Hedgecock said. “The lapped cars, I just couldn’t get by, and (the surface) was starting to clean up and I let Jameson get by me. I appreciate him racing me clean, and then I ran him up the hill whenever he kind of got in a lapped car. I’m happy to finally get us one that, you know, is outside of Tennessee (with HTF).”
Key notes: Hedgecock’s win was his first-ever in NALMS action and his second with the Hunt the Front Series; his previous checkered flag came on Nov. 1, 2024, at I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, Tenn. … Hedgecock led all but laps 29-30, when Jameson slipped past in lapped traffic to assume command. Jameson ceded the spot back to Hedgecock on lap 31 after he made contact with a slower car between turns three and four and slid up the track. … Both Hedgecock and Jameson sustained body damage to their cars on lap 46 when they brushed the turn-two wall as they slowed to avoid the spinning car of David Webb, who twirled in front of the leaders after contact from Derek Groomer. … Joseph Joiner finished third driving a Capital Race Car he raced for the first time after his primary machine was sidelined by mechanical trouble during hot laps. … Mike Marlar was bidding to overtake Jimmy Owens for fourth on lap 47 when he caught the outside wall off turn four, ripping the right-rear tire from his car. Marlar stopped to bring out the race’s second and final caution flag and was credited with a 19th-place finish. … Camaron Marlar, who won the $15,000 finale of last year’s August HTF weekend at Lake Cumberland, ran at the back end of the top 10 before retiring on lap 26. … Ricky Weiss of Headingley, Manitoba, was third in HTF points entering the event but wasn’t on hand. He announced via social media earlier in the week that he is working with his immigration lawyer to return to the United States after traveling to Canada recently when his grandfather passed away.
On the move: Jake O'Neil of Tucson, Ariz., started 21st and finished 11th.
