Chad Simpson takes the $4,000 checkers at Winneshiek Raceway.
What won the race: Series points leader Chad Simpson of Mount Vernon, Iowa, led all 40 laps from outside the front row for a $4,000 victory in the Malvern Bank East Series debut at Winneshiek Raceway. Simpson ran largely unchallenged the first 30 laps, taking the checkers 0.536 of a second ahead of Dylan Thornton.
Quotable: "Last night I was pretty disappointed with our fourth-place finish. We just missed it all night long and we just weren't any good," Simpson said. "Now tonight we didn't (qualify) as well, but once we found it there in that heat race, everything just kind of fell together."
Key notes: Points leader Chad Simpson notched his second series victory of the season and seventh of his career. ... He was hung up in low-running lapped traffic in the late going with runner-up Dylan Thornton hot on his heels (Thornton led all 30 laps in winning Friday's $3,000 weekend opener at Lafayette County Speedway in Darlington, Wis.) ... Polesitter Jesse Sobbing finished fifth. ... Two cautions slowed the action, the more serious when Paul Niznik and Jeff Tharp tangled inside turn three on the 19th lap (Niznik made his first series start). ... The first caution appeared the eighth lap when J.T. Wasmund got into the backstretch wall (Nick Marolf also retired under the caution and Jay Johnson shortly thereafter). ... Nick Panitzke couldn't claim a $1,600 bonus while failing to win from the sixth starting spot. ... The feature lasted 16 minutes, with 18 starters completing 40 laps.
On the move: Dallon Murty of Chelsea, Iowa, started 14th and finished eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Simpson's Longhorn Chassis has a Pro Power Racing Engine and sponsorship from Randy Davidson Trucking, Moeller Farms, RTL Equipment, Johnson Holding Company, Burich Trucking, Stewart & Sons, Midwest Sheet Metal, Swift Springs and Bilstein Shocks.
