Shane Sabraski (7a) edged Kyle Peterson (23) at ABC Raceway.
What won the race: After stalking mid-race leader Kyle Peterlin and trading sliders on lap 47, fifth-starting Shane Sabraski of Rice, Minn., prevailed to lead the final three circuits in winning Saturday's 50-lap 49th annual Red Clay Classic at ABC Raceway. Sabraski, a WISSOTA racing veteran with more than 900 career overall victories, beat Peterlin to the checkers by 0.863 of a second for the $6,000 payday.
Quotable: “(Kyle Peterlin) was running a great race," Sabraski said. "I was able to keep getting inside of him, and I was hoping I was getting inside of him enough that I could finally throw a slider at him cleanly and get by to the top."
Key notes: Sabraski secured his second victory of the season at ABC after winning Aug. 10's $20,444 Tanner Byholm Memorial on the WISSOTA Challenge Series. ... He's now earned more than $56,000 with his 17th overall triumph and seventh major event victory in his first full season piloting a Late Model. ... Sabraski, who won the night's earlier super stock feature, became the third driver to triumph in two disciplines on the same night of the Red Clay Classic, joining Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, Wis., and Tom Nesbitt of Thunder Bay, Ontario. ... Fourth-starting Kyle Peterlin muscled his way by early leader Ashley Anderson and led laps 18-47 before giving way to Sabraski. ... Anderson, of Elk Mound, Wis., led the opening 17 laps before fading to sixth after Peterlin pinched him into the turn-four wall at the completion of lap 18. ... Daniel Bargender showed his nose inside of Sabraski and Peterlin in the closing laps, finishing third, just 1.137 seconds behind the race winner. ... Tenth-starting Jeff Massingill climbed as high as third on lap 41 before settling for fourth. ... Jake Redetzke finished fifth after passing Anderson on the final lap. ... Pole-starting Kevin Burdick faded to eighth. ... A.J. Diemel overcame a spin on lap 18 to finish 10th; he twirled two following apparent contact from Burdick as they battled for fifth. ... Sammy Mars pulled off from seventh under the lap-18 caution. ... The race's second and final stoppage came on lap 38 for debris. ... The main event lasted 21 minutes, with 19 starters completing 50 laps. ... Jesse Glenz scratched.
On the move: Dan Bargender of Chippewa Falls, Wis., started 12th and finished third.
