Tad Pospisil celebrates his sixth Malvern West Series victory of the season.
What won the race: Powering around the outside of Bill Leighton Jr. amid lapped traffic on the last lap, second-starting Tad Pospisil of Norfolk, Neb., beat Leighton back to the checkers to win Friday's 25-lap Malvern Bank West Series feature at Lakeside Speedway. Pospisil led four times for 19 laps (1-16, 18, 20, 25) to pocket $3,000 while capturing his sixth tour triumph of the season and 39th of his career.
Quotable: “I just needed to quit being a pussy and put my foot in it and drive the hell out of that thing,” Pospisil said. “Honestly, this thing drives better the harder I drive it. I don’t know, I know Bill (Leighton Jr.) got bottled up in them lapped cars, but man, it was a heck of a race and he did a great job. I’ve been racing with them guys a long time. There’s no reason for us to be rubbing fenders or anything like that.”
Key notes: Pospsil has won five of the last nine Malvern West races going back to Aug. 1 at U.S. 30 Speedway in Columbus, Neb. ... The third-starting Leighton stuck primarily to the bottom line and slid by Pospisil to lead three times for six laps (17, 19, 21-24), before Pospisil gained control on the final circuit. ... The pair traded the lead six times over the final nine laps. ... Leighton still holds a 38-point advantage over Pospisil in the series standings entering Oct. 4-5's season finale at Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa. ... Fifth-starting Kyle Berck, a two-time series winner at Lakeside (2018, '22), took advantage of the lap-four restart and finished third. ... Pole-starting Chad Holladay faded to fourth. ... Andrew Kosiski traded fourth with Holladay in the early going before slipping to sixth in the final rundown. ... The race's lone caution came when Jon Binning spun on lap four. He continued to finish 21st, three laps down. ... Andy Bryant lost an engine on lap 14 but was able to pull off under green. ... The 25-lapper lasted just shy of 10 minutes, with 16 starters completing the distance.
On the move: Jake Neal of Omaha, Neb., started 17th and finished eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Pospisil's Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Scott Bailey Racing Engine and sponsored by Signor Trucking, Window World, Iron Horse CPAs & Advisors, Dietz Well & Pumps, 97.5 WEXL/WJAG, Island Supply, Bad Chad Motorsports and Malvern Bank.
